Thank you for a very cogent and non-hyperventilating summary. As you say, we are not nearly out of the woods yet in terms of a potential constitutional crisis, principally because it is not at all clear that Congress—which bears responsibility for adjudicating presidential malfeasance — is willing to do its job on that front. (Or less sweepingly: members of one party have repeatedly signaled that they will do everything in their power to thwart the proper application of Congressional oversight.) The mechanisms set forth in our Constitution only function properly when the individual members of government charged with carrying them out act in good faith…..which is the part that keeps me up nights.
