Yes, the descent of the GOP is appalling and almost hard to fathom. I share your hope that the Republicans may have bottomed out at last—though they continually surprise me—and are relying on a tiny sliver of the electorate, but I fear that they will succeed in rigging the game (that is, getting a chokehold on control of the electoral process) after which majorities will no longer matter.
